The Walthers Front Runner was introduced in late 1997 and sold
for $10.98. Walthers produced the Front Runner in ready-to-run form in TTX variations of old and new paint, plus
an Undecorated example.
The Front Runner is a 50'-6" car and can haul trailers with lengths of 40' to 48'. The
car rolls on a single-axle truck and requires a radius of 24" or wider for smooth operation.
The Walthers Front Runner is featured in the June 1998 Model Railroader's Product Reviews section.
The September 1985 Model Railroader included scale drawings for the Front Runner. Jeff Wilson's MR review provides an
understanding of the "new" and "old" TTX offerings, "Trailer Train's Front Runners originally wore TTUX reporting marks...this
was changed to TTOX in 1989." The Front Runner cars enter service in 1983, according to the Model Railroader review.
Walthers released a group of six ready to run Front Runner with Trailer models for $19.98
each in late 2005.
