Walthers theme for 2000 was America's Driving Force and automotive related items were prime in the catalog. Joining Walthers' Thrall 89-foot Enclosed Auto Carrier kit (4800 series) was the 89-foot Tri-Level Enclosed Auto Carrier. Sold ready-to-run and fully assembled, the model retailed for $19.98 as a single and also came in 2-packs for $37.98 each. For 2001, Walthers introduces four new additions to its Tri-Level: BNSF -Yellow, CN, DRGW, and TFM. This model returns in Walthers Gold Line in 2005 with eight new road names: Frisco, CP Rail, Santa Fe, BNSF, CNW, C&O-Chessie, KCS, and UP. The 2005 single model retail was $25.98; 2-packs sold for $49.98. The model was ready to run with add-on wire grab irons. Walthers releases another group of Tri-Levels in 2005. The class of 2005 included: ICG, GTW, CSX, UP, and N&W. As before, Walthers issues singles and 2-packs for the model.

The next release of Walthers Tri-Level has the model appearing in the Platinum Line. Revised tooling for this release included separately molded side ladders. The Platinum release of 2011 presented the Tri-Level in ready to run form with a $37.98 retail. Walthers released six Tri-Levels in a spring 2012 offering: BN, BNSF, CN, GTW, NS, and UP. A new group of Tri-Levels is scheduled for delivery in the early part of 2013
