AHM includes this car under the name 50ft. Reefers in an ad in September 1975's issue of Railroad
Model Craftsman magazine. That ad includes three roadnames, P.F.E., N.P., and N.Y.C., for this model with a retail price
of $2.49 and a sale price of $1.29.
Samples inspected for this offering show it was produced in Italy by Lima for AHM. The model's
design differs from the typical box car with shell providing sides, ends, and roof that snap onto a frame. Lima's tooling
provides a shell with ends and sides, plus bottom section. The roof is separate and snaps into two round holes on the shell's
ends. Though the shell has a bottom, it is not a detailed underfram and is somewhat redundant. A separate detailed underframe
snaps into the upper shell and a weight is sandwiched between the pair of sections. Trucks include X2F couplers and snap
into the underframe. Other separate parts include the running boards and brake wheel.
In addition to AHM, this model was sold by Lima and has appeared in Model Power's PMI collection in the 1970s.
