Athearn model is Pullman-Standard's 4,740 cubic foot Covered Hopper.  Select roadnames featured separately applied herald or logo plates on the model's sides.  This was a somewhat uncommon feature for the time on any HO-scale model.  Illustrated is Athearn's early 1971 ad announcing its new PS-4740 Hopper, also new were GE U28B and U28Cs.

In collecting Athearn examples, you'll discover many more roadnames than ever cataloged by the company.  Bev-Bel and Rail Runner Custom Cars offered unique lettering examples for this Athearn produced model.

Tangent Scale Models offers an excellent PS-2CD 4,740.  Tangent's 4,740 model was introduced in 2007.

TYCO's 1974 release and later IHC Hobby re-issue model is similar to Athearn 4,740 with exceptions to the stirrup steps.  TYCO's tooling shortened the stirrups.

There are similar Pullman Standard Covered Hoppers produced in HO-scale.  Among them, Life-Like's Proto 2000 line includes the 4,427 PS-2CD Hopper.  The Proto 2000 model is a High-Side 4,427 example and was introduced in 1999.

InterMountain sells a 3-Bay PS-2CD 4,750 cubic foot Covered Hopper model.  This example is a slightly larger prototype compared to Athearn's 4,740 model.  InterMountain's 4,750 was introduced in 1993.
