The Collector Series Chessie Steam Special is found in Lionel's 1980 catalog, plus the Spring 1980 Collector Series flyer. Powering the set was a 2-8-4 Berkshire Steam Engine and Tender. The loco included electronic whistle, Magnetraction, smoke and Lionel's Mighty Sound of Steam. Five heavyweight cars made up the rolling stock: Baggage, Combo, two Coaches and Observation. The Chessie Steam Special was sold by Lionel individually and was not boxed together in set form.
