Added to Athearn's freight car collection in 1968 is the 40' Single Dome Tank Car. This model
arrives at the same time the ACF Center-Flow Hopper, 50' Outside Braced Plug Door Box Car and 50' Outside Braced Mechanical
Refrigerator Car all join the Athearn line. Original 1968 roadnames for the 40' Single Dome Tank Car included: Phillips
66, Warren, Richfield, Conoco, SP Yellow Gasoline Service, and Santa Fe. The model was issued in kit only form at $1.98 each.
Prior
to this plastic example, Athearn introduced a wood and metal 36-foot single dome tank car in 1950 that is similar in appearance
though not the same as this model.
