Jim Eager details the Southern Pacific 40-foot Modern Boxcars in
the April '83 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman. It is stated that Athearn's 40' Baby Hi-Cube with outside bracing is
the PC&F (Pacific Car and Foundry) prototype built in the mid-'60s. Mr. Eager's article details converting the extended
height roofed Athearn model down to a regular height 40' box car that was produced by PC&F in the early '70s.
