The Chemical Tank Car appears in Athearn catalogs back to 1958 with a single entry for a Gulf lettered kit selling for $1.69. The roster was increased according to the 1959 catalog to include four: Michigan Alky, Dow Chemical, DuPont plus the previously released Gulf. Of Athearn's 40' tank cars, this model and the 3-Dome are the oldest dating to the '50s. The Single Dome Tank Car was introduced in 1968.
