Athearn's 42-foot Quad Hopper model arrives at the same time as the two versions of the Pickle
Car and the 50-foot Double Door Box Car in mid-1959. The hopper is a based on a 70-ton prototype and is reviewed in the August
1959 issue of Model Railroader magazine. The review said the model, "is really an exquisite piece of equipment." The model
featured opening working bay doors on the underframe that attached to the one-piece plastic body. The kit sold for $1.49
each.
