The Comet
1979-1981 (No.265)
1982 (No.40-265)
Bachmann adds the E60CP Electric and the 85' Budd Amfleet Coach in 1978, for 1979 the two are together in The Comet train set offering.  This set featured a 45" x 36" oval layout with power pack, plus the E60CP pulling three Amfleet Coaches all dressed in Amtrak's Phase II paint scheme.  This offering remains unchanged with the exception of its stock number through 1982.  Bachmann brings in a new numbering system in '82 and this set becomes #40-265 at that point.

The Comet
1983-1986 (No.40-129)
Beginning in 1983's catalog, The Comet is no longer under wire and the E60CP Electric is replaced by an F40PH Diesel powering the train.  The '83 catalog provides a $70 retail for this set that featured three Amfleet cars as before, though now pulled by an Amtrak dressed F40PH around the 45" x 36" oval track plan with power pack.  The Comet set with F40PH remains unchanged through the company's 1986 catalog, it carries a retail of $76 in '86.  It is absent from the line as of the 1987 catalog.
