Joining Bachmann's line in 1976 was this pair of train set offerings sharing the Old West theme used
by The Great Iron Horse Train Robbery (No.1870) train set. The Old West line was new in 1976 and in addition to the
train sets, Bachmann also introduced a collection of Old West themed Plasticville, U.S.A. building kits. You may see
them in the Accessories and Kits section of this website.
Given a 36" circle of track with "Simplimatic" plug-in wiring and power pack, this set was headed
up by the then-new Old West 4-4-0 Steam Engine and Tender. Five Old West rolling stock selections completed this set
and included a Gondola, Flat Car, Box Car, Water Car, and Caboose.
The set could be had dressed for either Union Pacific or Central Pacific service in 1976. Returning
in 1977, the set was listed as item 1861 only and would remain as a Central Pacific "Jupiter" powered set through the rest
of the 1970s Bachmann catalogs.
