Bachmann's 1970 catalog features two train sets.  This EMD GP40 set was one, the other was the EMD F9 Diesel A Unit and 4 Cars.  The 1970 catalog shows an N-scale Penn Central example for the GP40 set.  The 1971 Bachmann catalog includes the set again, this time an HO-scale Penn Central is displayed.  The set included a circle of 18"-radius track; power pack; instructions; and the display/storage case as seen in the above picture.  Retail on this set in the early '70s was $23 for the version without a power pack and $30 for set with power pack.  This set's last Bachmann catalog appearance is 1972, beginning in 1974 an expanded version is found called the EMD GP40 Diesel with 5 Cars Plus 6 Exciting Accessories.
