Bachmann's original stock number series for this car was 6250-6255. The 1968 catalog includes six roadnames (Pennsy, Central of Georgia, Canadian Pacific, Hydro-Cushion SP, C&O, and Santa Fe). The retail in '68 is listed as $2.00 and the car is described as, "50' Plug Door Box." The catalog includes an illustration of an Athearn HO-scale 50' Plug Door Box in Pennsylvania dress.

Model Railroader reviewed the Bachmann N-scale 50' Plug Door in the October 1969 issue. The review noted the car was close to dimensions of a Pullman-Standard PS-1 50-foot, 50-ton Plug Door. The review did not the car appeared to be too wide.
