TYCO lists four "Custom Train Sets" in its 1973-74 catalog.  These sets differ from the regular train set offerings in that they do not include a power pack. This group was promoted by TYCO as an "add-on set" for the existing operator.
 
Among The Custom Train Sets line was The Alco 630 Freight in 1973-74.  This set featured the then-new Alco Super 630 in orange and white Illinois Central; a Heinz 40' Billboard Reefer; a 50' green Great Northern Flat Car with 3 Truck Cabs; a 50' Southern Pulpwood Car; a silver Virginian 40' Hopper Car and an Illinois Central streamline Caboose; the 24 Signs and Poles Set (#121 and #122); and 14-sections of track with rerailer to make a 36" x 45" oval. 

The Diesel Flyer's Penn Central F-9A

The Diesel Flyer set featured an F-9A pulling a red Santa Fe El Capitan 50' Box Car; a green Western Maryland 40' Flat Car with 3-Culvert Pipes; a silver Virginian 40' Hopper Car; and a red Santa Fe streamline Caboose.  The Diesel Flyer came with a dozen sections of curved track, including a terminal rerailer section, that created a 36" circle layout.  A standard 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899) was also included.

TYCO lists four "Custom Train Sets" in its 1973-74 catalog.  These sets differ from the regular train set offerings in that they do not include a power pack. 
 
Among The Custom Train Sets line was The Diesel Freight in 1973-74.  This set included a Santa Fe F-9A; a New Haven 50' Box Car; a Gulf 3-Dome 62' Tank Car; a Santa Fe streamline Caboose; the 24 Signs and Poles Set (#121 and #122); and a dozen sections of track to make a 36" circle.  A terminal rerailer section is not included, nor is a power pack.  This line was promoted by TYCO as an "add-on set."

The Dixie Belle's 4-6-0

This set included a 4-6-0 Dixie Belle Steam Locomotive and Tender with operating headlight; Box Car; Horse Car; Water Car; and Combine Passenger Car.  The track plan built 36" x 45" oval and included a power pack.

The Golden West set's 1890 steam loco and tender

The Golden West

TYCO's Golden West train set includes the 1890 4-6-0 Loco and Tender decorated for Santa Fe (#233); a white 1890 Santa Fe Combine Coach (#372B) and a pair of brown Santa Fe 1890 Coaches (#372A).  A standard TYCO Power Pack (#899) and 14-sections of track create a 36" x 45" oval track plan compete the contents of this train set offering.  The Golden West set takes a year off and is not listed in TYCO's 1975-76 catalog, but does return in the 1976 catalog.  The contents are the same, however the stock number changes in '76.

TYCO Amtrak F-9 from The Inter-City train set

The Inter-City
(No. 7310D-Amtrak)
The Inter-City train set for 1974-75 featured a silver Amtrak F-9A (#224-07) pulling a set of three streamlined lighted passenger cars.  The passenger car included an Amtrak Combine (#520N); Amtrak Coach (#521N); and Amtrak Observation (#522N).  The set also included 12-sections of track, including curved termainl rerailer that made a 36" circle layout powered by TYCO's 1-amp Power Pak (#899).  The same Inter-City set returns in the 1975-76 TYCO catalog, but the stock number drops the "D" and becomes simply #7310.

The Long Hauler

The 1973 Long Hauler train set was powered by a Union Pacific GP-20 at the head of a consist that included a Crane Car and Boom Tender, 40' Reefer, Cable Reel Car, 40' Box Car, Truck Carrier Car, Sealand Container Car, and Caboose.  The set is listed as being sold with power pack only and it included enough track to construct a 36" x 45" oval.

The Over & Uunder
(No. 7311)
The Over & Under train set was powered by a Santa Fe F-9 (#224-21) pulling a yellow Union Pacific 40' Gondola with Culvert Pipe (#341B); a green Western Maryland 40' Flat Car with 3-Tractors (#351A); a red Burlington 40' Hopper Car; a green Burlington Northern 50' Box Car (339E); and a red Santa Fe Wide-Vision Caboose (#327-22).  TYCO's 33-Piece Bridge and Trestle Set (#909) and 26-sections of track built The Over & Under's 40" x 87" figure-8 track plan.  A standard Power Pak (#899) was also in the contents of this train set.  The Over & Under (#7311) returns exactly the same as it appears here in the 1974-75, 1975-76 and 1976 TYCO catalogs.

Union Pacifc 4-6-2 from The Pacifc Freight set

The Pacific Freight

This TYCO set included a Lighted Pacific 4-6-2 Steam Loco and Tender; Pulpwood Car; 50' Box Car; Hopper Car; 62' Triple-Dome Tank Car; Skid Flat with 3 Tractors and Caboose.  A power pack and enough brass track to construct a 36" x 45" oval track layout was also included.

The Railroad Empire's Pennsy Mikado Steamer

This set was powered by a Lighted 2-8-2 Mikado Steam Loco and Tender and included a Refrigerator Car; 55' Center-Flow Hopper Car; Hopper Car; Piggyback Flat Car with 2 Trailers; Truck Cab and Truck Terminal; Operating Crane Car and Boom Tender; Remote Control Freight Unloading Box Car Set; Remote Control Freight Unloading Depot with Operating Tractor and Flat Car with Pipes; Caboose; Operating Crossing Gate; 24 Signs and Poles; a 45" x 54" double-oval track plan including a pair of manual switches; and a 1-amp power pack.

TYCO lists four "Custom Train Sets" in its 1973-74 catalog.  These sets differ from the regular train set offerings in that they do not include a power pack. This group was promoted by TYCO as an "add-on set" for the existing operator.
 
The Royal Blue Custom Train Set of 1973-74 included a Lighted 4-6-2 Pacific Loco and Tender dressed in blue Baltimore & Ohio paint.  A set of three Lighted Streamline B&O Passenger Cars (Combine; Coach; Observation) were included, plus 14-sections of track with rerailer to make a 36" x 45" oval layout.

The Shifter Action Freight

This set included an 0-4-0 Shifter Steam Loco and Tender, Crane Car and Boom Tender, 40' Reefer, 50' Plug Door Box Car, Hopper Car, and Caboose.  Extras in the set included TYCO's Operating Crossing Gate and 17-piece Bridge & Trestle Set.  The track plan was a 36" x 45" oval and a power pack was included.

The Shifter Freight's Santa Fe 0-4-0

Similar to the contents of TYCO's Diesel Flyer train set, The Shifter Freight offered a steam loco rather than diesel powered train.  The Shifter Freight train set featured a Santa Fe 0-4-0 Shifter Steam Loco (#238); a green Western Maryland 40' Flat with 3-Tractors; an orange New Haven 50' Box Car; a black Reading 40' Hopper Car; and a red Santa Fe streamline Caboose.  The set also provided enough track to create a 36" circle layout ran by TYCO's standard 1-amp power pack.

The Spirit of '76

This TYCO set included a Lighted Alco 430; 50' Box Car; Hopper Car; Tank Car; Skid Flat with 3 Tractors; Piggyback Flat Car with 2 Trailers; Truck Cab and Truck Terminal; Remote Control Log Dump Car Set; Caboose.  Track included a pair of manual switches and enough brass sections to build a 45" x 54" double oval powered by a TYCOPak.

The Super Chief
(No. 7325)
The Super Chief and The Inter-City were the two train sets found in the early 1970's TYCO catalogs that featured the company's Lighted Streamlined Passenger Cars.  The Super Chief train set's engines were a powered red-and-silver Santa Fe F-9A (#225H) and a non-powered Santa Fe F-9B (#230H).  A set of four red-and-silver Santa Fe cars are included in the set:  a Combine (#520); a pair of Coaches (#521); and an Observation (#522).  The Super Chief came with enough track to create a 36" x 45" oval ran by a 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899).

Super Over & Under

Shown in the 1973-74 TYCO catalog being powered by the pre-production example IC Alco Super 630 Diesel.  This set's contents included a Skid Flat with 3 Tractors; 62' Hi-Cube Box Car; Gondola with Culvert Pipe; AutoLoader with 6 Autos; Caboose; 24 Signs and Poles; 33-piece Bridge & Trestle Set; 26 sections of track that built a 40" x 87" figure 8 layout; and a 1-amp power pack.

TYCO Road & Rail Set

The Super Road & Rail

The Super Road & Rail combination train set and slot car set featured a Lighted Santa Fe F-9A (#224-21) and a Non-powered Santa Fe F-9B (230-21).   The train set portion also included a green Western Maryland Flat with Tractors (#351A); an orange New Haven 50' Box Car (#339B); a silver Virginian 40' Hopper Car (#344C); the Santa Fe Piggyback Flat Car Set (#348) and the Wide-Vision red Santa Fe Caboose (#327-22).  TYCO's 24 Signs and Poles Set (#904) was included along with 16-sections of track and the 1-amp Power Pak (#899).
 
The Racing Set's contents included a pair of TYCOPRO car; 26-sections of slot car track; 13-pier supports; 16-sections of crash barrier fence with flags; a pair of racing controllers (#8752); a power pack (#8767); and the 3" road and rail crossover section (#8727).

Super Twin Diesel Freight

The Switcher Freight's Santa Fe diesel

Here's an example of a simple basic TYCO train set.  The Switcher Freight provided a Santa Fe red-and-silver Diesel Switcher (#241); a yellow Union Pacific 40' Gondola with 3-Pipes; a silver Swift 40' Billboard Reefer; and a red Santa Fe streamline Caboose.  The dozen sections of curved track made a 36" circle layout ran by a standard 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899).

Twin Diesel Freight

This TYCO train set featured a pair of red-and-silver Santa Fe F-9A diesels; one powered and one non-powered.  The freight train consisted of a green Great Northern 50' Flat Car with 3 Truck Cabs; a Baby Ruth Billboard Reefer; a yellow Shell Tank Car; a Santa Fe Flat Car with 2 Trailers; and a red Santa Fe streamline Caboose.   The Twin Diesel Freight set in 1973-74 provided a 36" x 45" oval track layout and the standard Tyco-Pak (#899).
