The Alco Super Action Freight
No. 7336
Train Set The Diesel Flyer
No. 7304
The Diesel Flyer set featured a Santa Fe F-9A decorated in the road's Freight-Warbonnet
blue-and-yellow scheme. TYCO is known to have produced at least two versions of this style of Santa Fe F-9. See
the listing for the F-9A unit to view the versions made by TYCO. The 1974-75 catalog displays the contents of this set
to include a red Santa Fe El Capitan 50' Box Car; a green Western Maryland 40' Flat Car with 3-Culvert Pipes; a silver Virginian
40' Hopper Car; and a red Santa Fe streamline Caboose. The Diesel Flyer came with a dozen sections of curved track,
including a terminal rerailer section, that created a 36" circle layout. A standard 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899) was also
included.
With minor changes, The Diesel Flyer set appears to become The Diesel Freight
train set found throughout the mid- to late-1970s in various TYCO catalogs.
No. 7319
TYCO's Golden West train set includes the 1890 4-6-0 Loco and Tender decorated
for Santa Fe (#233); a white 1890 Santa Fe Combine Coach (#372B) and a pair of brown Santa Fe 1890 Coaches (#372A).
A standard TYCO Power Pack (#899) and 14-sections of track create a 36" x 45" oval track plan compete the contents of this
train set offering. The Golden West set takes a year off and is not listed in TYCO's 1975-76 catalog, but does return
in the 1976 catalog. The contents are the same, however the stock number changes in '76.
No. 7310-D
The Inter-City train set for 1974-75 featured a silver Amtrak F-9A (#224-07)
pulling a set of three streamlined lighted passenger cars. The passenger car included an Amtrak Combine (#520N);
Amtrak Coach (#521N); and Amtrak Observation (#522N). The set also included 12-sections of track, including curved
termainl rerailer that made a 36" circle layout powered by TYCO's 1-amp Power Pak (#899). The same Inter-City set returns
in the 1975-76 TYCO catalog, but the stock number drops the "D" and becomes simply #7310.
No. 7317
The 1974-75 example of The Long Hauler train set was powered by a Chessie
System Alco Super 630 Diesel. Close inspection of this Chessie System Super 630 shows its riding on the then-new second
style of trucks and they are black in color. Most Chessie Sytem Super630 examples seen include silver trucks.
The set included the Santa Fe Crane Car and Boom Tender (#932); a 62' silver Gulf Triple-Dome Tank Car; a C and H Sugar Covered
Hopper Car; a green Great Northern 50' Cable Reel Car; a blue CP Rail 50' Box Car; and a Chessie System streamline Caboose.
The set provided 14-sections of track capable of making a 36" x 45" oval layout. A standard 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899) was
also included.
Train Set The Over & Under
No. 7311
The 1974-75 example of The Over & Under train set was powered by a
Santa Fe F-9 (#224-21) pulling a yellow Union Pacific 40' Gondola with Culvert Pipe (#341B); a green Western Maryland
40' Flat Car with 3-Tractors (#351A); a red Burlington 40' Hopper Car; a green Burlington Northern 50' Box Car (339E); and
a red Santa Fe Wide-Vision Caboose (#327-22). TYCO's 33-Piece Bridge and Trestle Set (#909) and 26-sections of
track built The Over & Under's 40" x 87" figure-8 track plan. A standard Power Pak (#899) was also in the contents
of this train set. The Over & Under (#7311) returns exactly the same as it appears here in both the 1975-76
and 1976 TYCO catalogs.
Train Set The Pacific Action Freight
No. 7332
This train set was powered by a Union Pacific 4-6-2 Pacific Steam Loco
and Tender (#212C). The train set included a 62' silver Gulf Triple-Dome Tank Car; a Baby Ruth Billboard Reefer; a blue
Ajax Covered Hopper; a Santa Fe Flat Car with 2 Trailers; a blue Boston & Maine 40' Hopper Car; and a yellow Union Pacific
streamline Caboose. The track included in The Pacific Action Freight built a 54" x 36" oval that included a manually
operated switch with spur. The sput concluded with a Bumper Track Section (#955). Also in this set was the Operating
Crossing Gate (#908) and a standard Tyco-Pak (#899).

The Shifter Action Freight
(No.7328)
The Shifter Action Freight provided a Santa Fe 0-4-0 Shifter Steam Loco
(#238); the Santa Fe Crane Car and Boom Tender Set (#932); a silver Virginian 40' Hopper Car; a 62' Popsicle Express Reefer;
and a red streamline Santa Fe Caboose. The 36" x 45" oval track plan was enhanced by the inclusion of TYCO's 17-piece
Bridge and Trestle Set. The Shifter Action Freight also included a standard Tyco-Pak (#899).
The Shifter Freight

Similar to the contents of TYCO's Diesel Flyer train set, The Shifter Freight
offered a steam loco rather than diesel powered train. The Shifter Freight train set featured a Santa Fe 0-4-0 Shifter
Steam Loco (#238); a green Western Maryland 40' Flat with 3-Tractors; an orange New Haven 50' Box Car; a black Reading 40'
Hopper Car; and a red Santa Fe streamline Caboose. The set also provided enough track to create a 36" circle layout
ran by TYCO's standard 1-amp power pack.
The Spirit of '76

The Spirit of '76 train set found in the 1974-75 catalog shows the original
version of TYCO's bicenntenial Alco Century 430. Take a look at the page devoted to TYCO's Spirit of '76 product line
to view the differences in the Century 430's paint offerings. The Spirit of '76 Alco pulled a yellow Shell 40' Tank
Car; the orange Frisco Autoloader and Six Autos (#349); a silver Virginian 40' Hopper Car; the Santa Fe Piggyback Flat Car
Set (#348); an orange New Haven 50' Box Car; and the streamlined Sprit of '76 Caboose. Additionally, the set provided
enough track to build a 40" x 87" Figure-8 layout. The 33-Piece Bridge and Trestle Set (#909) was included in The
Spirit of '76 train set, as was TYCO's 24 Signs and Poles (#121 and #122) and the 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899).
TYCO's 1975-76 catalog carries this same train set and retains the stock
number 7330, however it is labeled The 101 Piece Spirit of '76 Over & Under in that catalog.
The Super Chief

The Super Chief and The Inter-City were the two train sets found in the
early 1970's TYCO catalogs that featured the company's Lighted Streamlined Passenger Cars. The Super Chief train set's engines were a
powered red-and-silver Santa Fe F-9A (#225H) and a non-powered Santa Fe F-9B (#230H). A set of four red-and-silver
Santa Fe cars are included in the set: a Combine (#520); a pair of Coaches (#521); and an Observation (#522).
The Super Chief came with enough track to create a 36" x 45" oval ran by a 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899).
The Super Road & Rail

The Super Road & Rail combination train set and slot car
set featured a Lighted Santa Fe F-9A (#224-21) and a Non-powered Santa Fe F-9B (230-21). The train set portion
also included a green Western Maryland Flat with Tractors (#351A); an orange New Haven 50' Box Car (#339B); a silver Virginian
40' Hopper Car (#344C); the Santa Fe Piggyback Flat Car Set (#348) and the Wide-Vision red Santa Fe Caboose (#327-22).
TYCO's 24 Signs and Poles Set (#904) was included along with 16-sections of track and the 1-amp Power Pak (#899).
The Racing Set's contents included a pair of TYCOPRO car; 26-sections of
slot car track; 13-pier supports; 16-sections of crash barrier fence with flags; a pair of racing controllers (#8752); a power
pack (#8767); and the 3" road and rail crossover section (#8727).
The Switcher Freight
(No. 7300)
Here's an example of a simple basic TYCO train set. The Switcher
Freight provided a Santa Fe red-and-silver Diesel Switcher (#241); a yellow Union Pacific 40' Gondola with 3-Pipes; a silver
Swift 40' Billboard Reefer; and a red Santa Fe streamline Caboose. The dozen sections of curved track made a 36" circle
layout ran by a standard 1-amp Tyco-Pak (#899).
The Twin Diesel Freight
No. 7312
This TYCO train set featured a pair of red-and-silver Santa Fe F-9 (#248-21)
diesels; one powered and one non-powered. These two engines powered a train consisting of a 50' green Burlington
Northern Box Car (#339E); a green 40' Western Maryland Flat with Tractors (#351A); a red-and-black Southern
Railway Pulpwood Car (#334A); a brown with silver roof and ends Hershey Chocolate Billboard Reefer (#355B); and a Wide-Vision
red Santa Fe Caboose (#327-22). The Twin Diesel Freight set rather surprisingly only provided a simply 36"-circle
track layout, odd considering it is a rare TYCO set to offer two diesels, and the standard Power Pack (#899).
