This four-bay cylindrical hopper arrives in Bachmann's line with its 1985 product catalog. Four road names are originally included: Canadian Pacific, CPWX, Heritage Fund, and Santa Fe. Listed only by its CPWX reporting mark, this car represents a prototype owned by the Government of Canada's Wheat Board and in service with Canadian Pacific Railway.

The assembled model sold for $4 in the mid-1980s. The original version of this Bachmann model included friction-style truck sideframes with plastic wheels and talgo-style X2f couplers. The car goes missing from Bachmann catalogs in the mid-1990s with the introduction of Silver Series release with metal wheels and body-mounted knuckle couplers. The early 2000s saw this model return and join the company's Silver Series and gain better wheels and body-mounted EZ Mate knuckle couplers.
