Undecorated Kit
No. 509 -1978 Release

The 1890 Rodgers 4-6-0 is present in the collection of 1978 offerings and return of the Mantua name to the HO-scale hobby market. Mantua's catalog description credits this loco as being the infamous loco rode into history by Casey Jones on the Illinois Central. However, Mantua does not include Illinois Central among the trio of roadnames: Sierra R.R., Santa Fe, and Pennsy. An Undecorated 1890 Rodgers kit was offered in 1978, along with the decorated ready to run examples. The 1978 retail for the fully assembled model was $43. The kit sold in '78 for $39. A new roadname is added in 1980, Kansas City Southern. For 1981, Mantua lists a Spirit of America 1890 Rodgers loco. The Rodgers appears to drop from the line in the early 1980s. Mantua offers its Central Pacific Rogers (#363-006) in 1991. Though not illustrated in the annual catalog, Manuta's 1991 Price List includes the 1890 Rodgers 4-6-0 with three roadnames: Santa Fe, Pennsylvania, and B&O. The '91 retail is $44. A Spring 1994 Mantua Price List includes the model with a $164.98 retail and presents five roadnames: W&A, D&RGW, B&O, Central Pacific, and Clinchfield. By 1994, Mantua has five different model numbers for this offering: 309, 337, 363, 377, and 391.
