Drive issues caused the delay in the release of Athearn's Pacific 4-6-2 Steam Engine from its original 1958 announcement. The tank steamer 0-4-2T "Little Monster" ended up being the first available steam engine from Athearn. A similar fate as the 0-6-0 Switcher and Pacific 4-6-2 would be ahead for the 0-4-2T, it was dropped from the Athearn catalog by 1965 along with its two sister steamers.

The only known roadname is the N-W, which appears to be a ficitious creation.
