The second year of the MPC-General Mills Era of Lionel production, 1971,
introduces the 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam engine. The C&O (No. 6-8142) is the first roadname presented for this model in 1971.
The Rock Island (No. 6-8304) and Milwaukee (No. 6-8305) join the roster in 1973. The Rock Island is found in Lionel's 1973
Rock Island Express (No. 6-1386) set and as an individual release. The Milwaukee 4-4-2 is part of the Milwaukee Special (No.
6-1387) set. Lionel's 1974 Broadway Limited (No. 6-1487) set featured a Pennsy 4-4-2 carrying the same number, 8304, as the
Rock Island example. The 1975 Capital Limited (No. 6-1587) includes a B&O 4-4-2 that also carries roadnumber 8304. The Chesapeake
Flyer (No. 6-1586) in Lionel's 1976 includes a C&O 4-4-2 with roadnumber 8304.
