The GP-9 is one of three diesel locomotives to make it into the first Lionel
catalog of the MPC-General Mills Era in 1970. Dressed in orange and white Illinois Central, the GP-9 is found in Lionel catalogs
from 1970-1972. The Santa Fe blue and yellow GP-9 in powered and dummy versions arrives in '72. Powered and dummy Pennsy
GP-9 diesels debut in the 1973 Lionel catalog. A bicentennial Norfolk & Western GP-9 is found in 1975 at the point of Lionel's
Spirit of America (No. 6-1584) set. Also new in '75 is the red Jersey Central powered and dummy GP-9 diesels. Three new
roadnames join the GP-9 roster in 1977: Erie Lackawanna, Conrail and Boston & Maine. The CP Rail GP-9 arrives in '78 with
Lionel's Great Plains Express (No. 6-1866) set. You'll also see powered and dummy Lehigh Valley GP-9 offerings in the '78
Lionel catalog. The 1980 catalog sees powered and dummy Florida East Coast GP-9 diesels join the Lionel line.
