Above is an example of Life-Like's early 1970s "blister" or "carded" package design.  Varney originally offered freight cars in packaging very similar to that seen above for this Pennsy 40ft. Box Car.  Life-Like kept this style of packaging around in its line for many years.  Examples may also be found with a white background and the red-blue-and-yellow striping and lettering of the late '70s.

Where It Came From...
 
Life-Like's 40ft. Box Car tooling was brought into the company's line with the purchase of the Varney molds in the late 1960s.  Below is a late era Varney example of this car dressed for Missour Pacific service.

The Industrial Rail line included Life-Like manufactured freight cars in both HO- and N-scale for a time.  The cars were offered in white boxes with the Industrial Rail name, though the car's still carried the Life-Like name on their undersides.  Atlas purchased Industrail Rail a few years ago and no further releases of re-packaged Life-Like cars are known to have been done since.
