Operating Accessory
Steam Whistle and Wayside Warehouse
1980-1981 (No.1436)
1982-1984 (No.46-1209)
The 1980 Bachmann catalog is the first appearance of the Electric Steam
Whistle and Wayside Warehouse in the operating accessories line. Carrying item number 1436, this Bachmann HO-Scale operating
accessory featured a steam whistle housed in a warehouse model contolled by a push button that received powerd from one's
power pack. As Bachmann's cataloging system changed, so did this item's number. Starting life in 1980 as
item 1436, the Steam Whistle becomes 46-1209 as of 1982. The 1984 Bachmann catalog appears to be the final appearance
for this item.
In 1982, Bachmann catalogs an N-Scale version of this accessory. The Electronic Steam Whistle
& Freight Station (No.56-1209) arrives in the N-Scale line. The smaller example survives beyond its larger HO-Scale
counterpart and is still present in Bachmann catalogs as the '80s close.
Bachmann included its Steam Whistle and Wayside Warehouse in the Empire Builder train set beginning
in 1980.
This item is similar in some respects to TYCO's Steam Whistle in Billboard and Bachmann's own Diesel
Horn in Oil Storage Tank.
