At left is a May 1962 ad promoting the introduction of Athearn's 0-6-0 Steam Engine. The August
1962 Trade Topics column reviewing new products includes the Athearn 0-6-0 Switcher. The review states this is, "the best
steam-type model to come from Athearn so far." It is noted that Athearn refers to the model as a "USRA type," however the
Model Railroader reviewer states there are a "number of non-USRA dimensions." The major non-USRA conformity for the Athearn
model is a tapered bolier, while the USRA prototypes had a straight boiler. The Athearn 0-6-0's price in 1962 was $10.95.
Two road names were produced for Athearn's 0-6-0 steam engine (Pennsylvania Railroad and Southern Pacific). This release
is absent from Athearn's listings by the mid-1960s.
