A powered F9-A and non-powered F9-B pulling a Streamline Combine,
two Coaches, and an Observation Car around a 45" x 36" oval track with Uncoupling Ramp made up this $31.98 TYCO set in 1962.
The Capital Limited (No.T6212A) was Baltimore & Ohio lettered;
the El Capitan (No.T6212B) was Santa Fe.
1962 Train Sets
El Capitan
No. T6212B -1962 Release
A powered F9-A and non-powered F9-B pulling a Streamline Combine,
two Coaches, and an Observation Car around a 45" x 36" oval track with Uncoupling Ramp made up this $31.98 TYCO set in 1962.
The Capital Limited (No.T6212A) was Baltimore & Ohio lettered;

Gay Nineties Trolley Car Crosstown
(No.T6201)
TYCO's 1962-63 product catalog boasts that this set is "Gay as a trolley party," which I will
simply leave alone and move on to its contents. Decorated in orange and black and lettered Crosstown, the set featured
an oval of street trolley track and sold for $8.98 in 1962.
Indusrial Giant
(No.T6202)
For $11.98 the Industrial Giant set included a Union Pacific Plymouth
Diesel heading up a train with a Skid Flat Car with Pipe Load, Reefer, and 4-Wheel Caboose. The set included a 36" circle
of track.
Trans-Continental
No.T6203A; T6203B; T6203C
Taking the place of the previous year's Shipper's Express, the Trans-Continental had an F-9A;
Refrigerator Car; Skid Flat with 3 Culvert Pipe Sections; Operating Hopper Car; and 4-Wheel Caboose. The Santa Fe example
was T6203A; the Pennsylvania was T6203B; and the Canadian Pacific version was T6203C, which is pictured above. The set
sold for $14.98 in 1962.
The Shifter
(No.T6205A and T6205B)
Similar to 1961's Red Dot set, The Shifter had TYCO's 0-4-0 Steam
Booster powering this set which featured a Skid Flat Car with Pipe Load; Stock Car; Operating Hopper Car; and Streamline
Cupola Caboose. A circle of track finished out this set which retailed for $19.98. A Pennsy loco and caboose
made it TYCO's T6205A; while a Northern Pacific equipped set was T6205B.
Eastern Special and Western Special
(No.T6206A and T6206B)
One of five TYCO train sets in '62 to include Streamline Passenger
Cars, the Specials were the most modest of the group in consist and therefore price. A powered F-9A led a Combine and
Coach around a 45" x 36" oval. The set included an Uncoupling Ramp and sold for $19.98. The Eastern Special (T6206A)
was dressed for New Haven service; while The Western Special (T6206B) was done up for Burlington Route chores.
The Early Bird
(No.T6207A; T6207B; T6207C)
TYCO's "Low Profile" as they called it GP-20 Diesel was on the point
of The Early Bird set followed by a Reefer, Skid Flat Car with Pipe Load, Operating Hopper Car, Chemical Tank Car, Gondola
with Culvert Pipe Sections and Streamline Cupola Caboose. The set also included a 45" x 36" oval and TYCO's NMRA Portable
Automatic Uncoupling Ramp (No.15729) all for $24.98. A red CB&Q Burlington GP-20 made it TYCO's T6207A; T6207B denoted
the Santa Fe GP-20; and the Union Pacific example was T6207C.
Pacemaker
(No.T6208A and T6208B)
Powered by a F-9A with trailing non-powered F-9B, TYCO's Pacemaker
set also had an Operating Hopper, Chemcial Tank Car, Gondola with Culvert Pipe Sections, Stock Car, Skid Flat with Pipe Load
and Streamline Cupola Caboose. All ready to run around and around a 45" x 36" oval of brass track complete with Uncoupling
Ramp for $24.98. A C&O example was Pacemaker T6208A; the Rio Grande set was T6208B.
Gotham Limited and Denver Limited
(No.T6209A and T6209B)
An F-9A was in control of a trio of Streamline Passenger Cars (Combine,
Coach, Obs) with a 45" x 36" oval of track with Uncoupling Ramp. TYCO's Gotham Limited (T6209A) was a Pennsylvania Railroad
decorated set. The Denver Limited (T6209B) had Rio Grande power and cars. The set sold for $24.98 in 1962.
Empire Builder
(No.T6210)
One of TYCO's first train sets to include the Unloading Coal Trestle (No.861) accessory
was this GP-20 powered offering. Behind the Santa Fe GP-20 was a Skid Flat Car with Pipe Load, Gondola with 3 Culvert
Pipe Sections, Operating Hopper and Streamline Cupola Caboose. The $24.98 set featured track to construct a 54" x 36"
oval with 26" track spur. A Uncoupling Ramp was also included.
Pufferbelly
(No.T6211A and T6211B)
A new feature for 1962 in the TYCO line was Steam Locos with Smoke.
The Pufferbelly set featured an 0-4-0 Shifter with Smoke pulling a Skid Flat with 3 Culvert Pipes, Reefer, Tank Car, Animated
Brakeman Box Car, Operating Hopper and Streamline Cupola Caboose. The set's track plan was a 45" x 36" oval with Uncoupling
Ramp included for $29.98. A Southern Pacific Shifter and Caboose was TYCO's T6211B; while the B&O example was T6211A.
Atlantic and Pacific Fast Freight Sets
(No.T6213A and T6213B)
TYCO's 4-6-2 Pacific Steam Loco and Tender pulled a Gondola with
Culvert Pipe Sections, Stock Car, Operating Hopper, Skid Flat with Pipe Load, Reefer, Operating Sugar Hopper Car and Streamline
Cupola Caboose. The 45" x 36" track plan included a Portable Uncoupling Ramp. The set was the Atlantic Fast Freight
(No.T6213A) with Pennsy power and Pacific Fast Freight (No.T6213B) with Santa Fe loco. Either way, the set retailed
for $34.98.
Blue Train-Centennial
(No.T6214A)
One of two Blue and Gray Civial War Centennial Sets was the Blue
Train featuring an 1860-series 4-4-0 Locomotive and Tender lettered for U.S. Military R.R. Additionally, the set included
a Platform Car with two Civil War Cannons; Stock Car; Explosives Box Car; and Hospital Combine Car. The Stock Car was
TYCO's 1860-series Horse Car and the Explosives Box Car was simply the 1860s Box Car. The catalog states that both sets
also included Union and Confederate Flags with Staffs. The set included track to build a 45" x 36" oval with Uncoupling
Ramp (15729) and retailed for $34.98.
Gray Train-Centennial
(No.T6214B)
The other of the two Blue and Gray Civial War Centennial Sets
was the Gray Train featuring an 1860-series 4-4-0 Locomotive and Tender lettered for Georgia-Central. Additionally,
the set included a Platform Car with two Civil War Cannons; Stock Car; Explosives Box Car; and Hospital Combine Car.
The Stock Car was TYCO's 1860-series Horse Car and the Explosives Box Car was simply the 1860s Box Car. The catalog
states that both sets also included Union and Confederate Flags with Staffs. The set included track to build a
45" x 36" oval with Uncoupling Ramp (15729) and retailed for $34.98.
Dixie Belle Passenger Set
(No.T6215)
An 1860-series set with the General 4-4-0 Western & Atlantic
up front with an 1860 Combine and two Coaches. This set is similar to what was offered in 1960 and 1961. The 1962
example again retailed for $34.98 and included enough track for a 45" x 36" oval and included an Uncoupling Ramp (15729).
Golden West
(No.T6216)
The Central Pacific General Steamer pulling 1860 series Water Car;
Box Car; Horse Car; Platform Car; and Combine. This set included track to operate a 45" x 36" oval, plus an Uncoupling
Ramp (15729) as part of its $39.98 retail price.
Royal Blue and The Crescent Limited
(No.T6217A and T6217B)
TYCO's 4-6-2 Pacific Steam Engine pulling a Streamline Combine,
pair of Coaches, and Observation, all dressed for Baltimore & Ohio service made up The Royal Blue (No.T6217A); while a
green Southern 4-6-2 powered The Crescent Limited (No.T6217B). The set included a 45" x 36" oval of track and Uncoupling
Ramp (15729) for $39.98.
Mammoth Of The Rails
(No.T6127)
The Mammoth for '62 featured a 2-8-2 Mikado lettered for Santa Fe
pulling an Animated Brakeman Box Car, Operating Hopper, Derrick Car, Skid Flat with Culvert Pipes, Operating Floodlight Car,
Stock Car, Reefer and Streamline Cupola Caboose. The set's track was designed to create 45" x 36" oval with Uncoupling
Ramp. The $49.98 retail made this the highest priced set in the catalog for 1962.
Hi Baller
(No.T6219A; T6219B; T6219C)
A very basic F-unit, a few cars and a circle of track. The
Hi Baller had TYCO's F-9A; a Skid Flat with Pipe Load, Reefer and the little 4-Wheel Caboose with a 36" circle of track.
TYCO offered this set in three roadnames: Pennsylvania (T6219A); Santa Fe (T6219B); and Canadian Pacific (T6219C).
The set retailed for $19.98.
Interstate Freight and Dominion Freight
(No.T6220A and T6220B)
TYCO's 0-4-0 Booster had its drivers full pulling a Reefer, Box Car, Flat Car with Girder Load,
Gondola with 3 Culvert Pipes and Streamline Cupola Caboose. The American Interstate Freight (T6220A) had Reading equipment;
while the Canadian Dominion Freight (T6220B) had Canadian National power and caboose. The set sold for $24.98 and included
a 45" x 36" oval and Uncoupling Ramp.
General Purpose 20
(No.T6221)
TYCO's Union Pacific GP-20 pulled a Chemical Tank, Reefer, Gondola with Culvert Pipes, Animated
Brakeman Box Car and Streamline Cupola Caboose to create the General Purpose 20 set of 1962. A Uncoupling Ramp was included
with enough track to build a 45" x 36" oval for $29.98.
Rio Grande Freight
(No.T6222)
This well appointed set began with an 0-4-0 Shifter lettered for Rio Grande service.
Behind the loco was an Animated Brakeman Box Car, Operating Sugar Hopper, Reefer, Gondola with Culvert Pipe Sections, Tank
Car, Skid Flat with Pipe Load and Streamline Cupola Caboose. The set's track built a 45" x 36" oval and an Uncoupling
Ramp was included in the $39.98 retail price.
The Streamliner
(No.T6223)
A rare instance of TYCO putting its GP-20 at the head end of a set
of Streamline Passenger Cars. This set started with a UP GP-20 and included a Combine, two Coaches and Observation Car
all running around a 45" x 36" oval with Uncoupling Ramp included in the $39.98 price.
