Grand Trunk & Western
No. 1084 -1970 Release
A Grand Trunk 2-4-2 pulling a Great Northern Hopper, Wheaties Box Car, Union Pacific Flat Car
with Stakes, Sunoco Tank Car and GT Caboose made up this 1970 set according to the catalog illustration. The Sunoco
Tank Car is absent from the catalog's description. Track plan was a 27" x 46" oval. Transformer was included.

Twin Illinois Central GP-9 diesels, one powered and one dummy, powered Lionel's Midnight Express.
Rolling stock included B&O Hopper, NP Flat with two Trailers, UP Box Car, Penn Central Communications Satellite Car, L&N
Operating Log Car, and IC Caboose. A double oval track plan and transformer were also included.

The Mountaineer
No. 1086 -1970 Release
A Great Northern 4-6-4 pulling a string of cars that included the NP Flat Car with two Trailers,
L&N Log Dump Car, Santa Fe Box Car, B&O Hopper, and GN Caboose made up this set. A figure 8 track plan and transformer
were included. The 4-6-4 Hudson Steam Engine and Tender are reported to have never been made in 1970.

The 1970 Lionel catalog states this set is powered by a Penn Central 2-4-2 Steam Engine with
New York Central Tender, Burlington Northern Gondola, Great Northern Hopper, Union Pacific Flat Car with Stakes and Penn Central
Caboose. The catalog illustration shows an unlettered black engine with red stripe and black tender. A red L&N
Gondola is also present in the catalog illustration, though the description calls for a BN example. The track plan built
a 27" x 64" figure 8. Transformer was included.

No. 1085 -1970 Release
A pair of Alco A diesels, one powered and one dummy, in Santa Fe red and silver warbonnet
pulling a Great Northern Hopper, Hersheys Box Car, Sunoco Tank Car, NP Flat with two Trailers, BN Gondola and Santa Fe Caboose
were the power and rolling stock for this set. A transformer and 27" x 82" figure 8 finished the set.

Set included a Nickel Plate Road lettered 2-4-2 Steam Engine and Tender pulling a Burlington
Gondola, Santa Fe Flat Car with Stakes and a Nickel Plate Caboose. Transformer and 27" x 36" track plan completed the
set.

No. 1082 -1970 Release
A Santa Fe Switcher, Burlington Gondola, Great Northern Hopper and Santa Fe Work Caboose made
up the power and rolling stock for Lionel's 1970 Yard Boss set. A 27" x 36" circle of track and transformer were also
included.
The 1970 collection of Lionel O27 train sets included seven offerings all
carrying a 1000-series stock number.
