At a time when the train line was shrinking, TYCO introduces a very popular line of HO-scale buildings. This 'Contemporary Series' set of kits was first seen in 1986 with Pizza Hut, Burger King, 7-Eleven, and 7UP Plant. The 1987 TYCO catalog adds Baskin Robbins.

The Baskin Robbins and 7-Eleven releases appear to share the same basic construction elements, though the other kits are all unique.  To date no examples of TYCO's 7-Eleven kit have been observed and it is thought to not exist.  TYCO's 7-Eleven kit is only cataloged in 1986.

The "B" suffix added to these kit numbers represents an example that included a lighting kit.  In addition to the letter added to the stock number, offerings that had the lighting kit included a mention of such on the package face.

By 1990, these kits are no longer listed in TYCO's catalogs. Collectors simply looking for these buildings can also obtain them from AHM's offering, see note at bottom of this page.

AHM 1984 Kits

AHM's 1984 product line catalog announces the above set of kits. Images used for the catalog are prototype/pre-production pictures. These kits are the same as those offered by TYCO.  AHM actually introduces these kits to the HO-scale model train market ahead of TYCO's 1986 release.  AHM exits the business not long after the release of these kits.
