A nice combination of toy and true model railroad product, the COX Trainscapes line offered items that had both play value
in their ability to interact with trains and still mantained a degree of prototypicality to their design and appearence.
The Big Pine Lumber set was one of two 'Trainscapes' in the COX line, the other being the Dockside set. The Big
Pine Lumber group was available in a variety of ways. COX sold the items in various ways beginning with a simple circle of
track train set that had the sawmill and sawdust burner and few other items(Cat.No.6037), to a packaged accessory Trainscape
that had the complete line of items. This allowed the Trainscape series to be the first piece of HO-scale trains one might
own or could be purchased in a set that simply added on to one's current operation. Pictured here is the complete Big Pine
Lumber Trainscape(Cat.No.6041).
Following COX's exit from the HO-scale train market around 1980, the majority of the Big Pine Lumber Trainscape items found
themselves available again. AHM(Associated Hobby Manufacturers) had most of the Big Pine group in its 1981 catalog, calling
them the 'Thunder Mountain Logging Company.' Walthers currently has items from the Big Pine Lumber series in its TrainLine
ready-to-run offerings.
