The year 1975 was a big one for HO-scale trains
thanks to the roll out of these Atlas diesels. Atlas bought the back inside cover of Railroad Model Craftsman
and Model Railroader magazines and this is where in those long ago days before the internet you'd first see what
was coming soon.
I still recall when my Dad bought the
May 1975 Model Railroader at Hatfield's Hobby Shop in Springfield, Illinois. We were out for a day of train
watching on the Norfolk & Western between Jacksonville and Decatur, Illinois and seeing the Atlas ad announcing the high-nose
GP38 was quite a surprise to this young fan and made it hard to decide whether to watch the high-nose units we were
pacing along with or drool over this coming Atlas model.
Below you too can enjoy Atlas' ads from the 1970s for their line
of HO-scale diesels. Click on any of the thumbnails and you'll be taken to a large version of the ad for your enjoyment...
