Announced in late 1990 was a new run of the Roco-produced FP-7. The model was originally offered by Atlas as part of the
1970s line of HO-scale diesels. This new run, delivering in early '91, included variations to the shell with respect to headlights
and dynamic brakes.
Jim Hediger conducts the Model Railroader magazine review of the revised Atlas FP-7 in the December 1990 issue. Changes from
the original 1970s offering of this model included an enhanced frame around the drive and gearboxes. Hediger's review states
the new FP-7 weighed in 5-ounces heavier than the original production examples. It is noted that the gear ratio was changed,
"to produce greater pulling power and a more realistic top speed."
The 1990 version included shell changes beyond the previously mentioned headlight and dynamic brake variations. The MR review
states the, "body shell has a number of detail improvements to specific items like the roof panels, steam generator parts,
pilot, and underframe." The Reading FP-7 is the example illustrated in the December 1990 Model Railroader.
By the end of the 1990s, the Roco-made EMD FP7 was a member of the E-R Models line. Euro-Rails Model Importers, Inc. of New
York brings a group of FP7 models to the U.S. in 1998. The E-R Models original set included: Southern Pacific; Canadian
Pacific; Rock Island; Milwaukee Road; Soo Line; Pennsy; and Reading. Each sold for $99.95 in 1998.
