Animated Brakeman Box Car
Found at the beginning of the Red Box Era in 1960, TYCO's Animated Brakeman Box Car was a 40'
Box Car with a figure of a Brakeman on top. As the car rolled, the figure moved around the car's roof in an oval pattern.
The original offering featured a Minneapolis & St. Louis red 40' Box Car and carried stock number T326A; new in 1960 was
a yellow Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo example numbered T326B.
Automatic Coal Unloading Trestle
Though TYCO had been cataloging Operating Hopper Cars for some years,
the 1962-63 catalog is the first to feature this accessory. The accessory worked with no wiring, no batteries and needed
no electricity. You could purchase the set with or without an Operating Hopper Car included.
The Automatic Coal Unloading Trestle (No.861) featured 1 lower formed
9" track section (concave); 1 upper formed 9" track section (convex); Hopper Gate Actuator on 6" track section; one 9" track
section; 1 portable wheel stop; car platform; pair of hanrails that read MANTUA COAL CO.; 3 riser trestles; 2 trestles with
platform supports; 2 trestles with extension suppost; coal bin; and enough coal for 2 carloads for $3.98. You could
pick up all the above, plus an Operating Hopper in the Automatic Coal Unloading Trestle with Operating Hopper Car (No.862)
for $5.98.

Operating Floodlight Car
Serving to light up the TYCO line for many years, the Operating
Floodlight Car (No.320) was available from the beginning of the '60s. The Pennsylvania Railroad example (No.320B)
stayed to join the BN and later Durango offerings in the Brown Box Era. TYCO also produced this item in Union Pacific
(No.320A) and Reading (No.320C). In 1960, the Floodlight Car carried a $4.98 retail.
Operating Hopper Car Gate Actuator
A forerunner to the Automatic Coal Unloading Trestle (No.861) was
this simple plastic strip. TYCO sold this item as Gate Actuator w/9" Track Section (No.15735) for seventy-five
cents or you could purchase just the white Gate Actuator (No.5736) alone for forty-nine cents.
Ore Dump Car Set
Prest-O-Matic
TYCO notes the patent pending status in the 1961 catalog for
this electrically operating accessory. The control button of the Prest-O-Matic (No.856) when used with TYCO's NMRA
Portable Uncoupling Ramp (No.15729) provided instant momentary uncoupling. The item retailed for $1.49 in 1961.
