Brown Box Era HO-Scale Trains
TYCO Numbering System

Understanding TYCO, By The Numbers...

One of the interesting features of studying and enjoying TYCO's HO-scale train products was the numbering system utilized to label items.  During the Brown Box Era, TYCO generally employed a 3-digit number to identify an item's type of model.  For example, the 224-series represented TYCO's powered F-9A models.  A suffix 2-digit identifier followed and represented the model's specific roadname decoration.  For example, 01 at the end of an item's number would denote that it was decorated for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  Thus, a 224-01 in the TYCO number system would tell you that you have a powered F-9A unit decorated for the Pennsylvania.

This section of the TYCO Resource concerns itself with listing the various model number series and also the roadname suffix numbers.  This provides an interesting insight into the world of TYCO.  Consider the holes in the numbering system and what they might or possibly could have represented.
