1978 Catalog Cover

TYCO's 1978 product catalog totals 47 full color pages and measures 8 1/2" x 11" in size.  The catalog opens with a two-page spread promoting the company's Electric Trains product line.  There are 14 train sets that run from page 4 through page 15.  See the Trains Sets section of the main TYCO Trains Collector's Resource and you may review specific information regarding the set offered in 1978.  The 14 sets included The Diesel Freight (#7302); The Midnight Special (#7305); The Southern Express (#7310); The Twin Diesel Freight (#7313); The Golden West (#7321); The Over & Under (#7315); The Silver Streak (#7322); The Broadway Limited (#7326); The Rock Island Line (#7325); The Chattanooga Choo-Choo (#7332); The Comin' Round The Mountain (#7327); The Santa Fe Action Freight (#7334); The Mammoth Of The Rails (#7337); and The System 200 (#7340). 
 
Electric Trains continue on page 16 with TYCO's Layout Expander System; page 17 details the Tru-Steel track line; Action Cars & Accessories are found across pages 18 and 19; TYCOKITS are on pages 20 and 21; Steam Locomotives, Diesel Locomotives and Trolleys are on pages 22 and 23; TYCO's Freight Cars and Passenger Cars are on pages 24 and 25.
 
Page 26 in the '78 catalog displays The Road & Rail (#9011) set that was a combination train and slot car offering. 
 
The 1978 catalog's focus moves on to TYCO's race cars exclusively beginning with page 27, where the year's only battery-operated set The Hustler (#6101) is found.  Pages 28 and 29 lay out the general elements of TYCO's HO-scale Electric Racing line.  The 30 Curvehugger HP2 slot cars are displayed on pages 30 and 31.  TYCO slot car sets begin on page 32 continuing through page 38.  The Electric Racing sets offered in the 1978 catalog include The Super Over & Under (#6201); Silver Streak Lighted (#6206); Nite-Glow 2-in-1 (#6212); Nite-Glow Double Loop (#6215); The Monte Carlo (#6211); The Championship 1000 (#6221) and Nite-Glow 4-Lane (#6235).  Electric Racing accessories are found on page 39.
 
TYCO's Command Control racing series is presented beginning on page 40 and 41 with a two-page introduction to the product line.  Command Control sets run from page 42 to 46 and included The Nite-Glow 2-Car Challenge (#6401); 3-Car Challenge (#6405); Nite-Glow 3-Car Challenge (#6411) and Nite-Glow 4-Car Challenge (#6415).  The Command Control set of 8 racing cars and accessories are found on the 1978 catalog's final page 47.

Introduced into the TYCO line in 1978 was the popular Silver Streak train set.  This set would stay with the TYCO line through the 1980 catalog.
