The Walthers 2001 HO Scale Model Railroad Reference Book is the first annual catalog to include
the 50' Gunderson High-Cube Paper-Service Box Car. The first release included eight roadnames: BN; CSX; CNW; WC; BNSF; CN;
CP; CHTT-UP, plus an Undecorated example. Single cars retailed for $14.98 and were ready to run. Walthers also offered a
limited run 2-pack for each of the original eight roadnames, which sold for $29.98 each in 2001.
The 2003 Walthers HO Scale Reference Book included a second release of eight additional roadnames
(NOKL; SP; SSW/Cotton Belt; NS; Upper Merion & Plymouth; IC; International Bridge & Terminal; and Bangor & Aroostock) for
the 50' Gunderson High-Cube Paper-Serivce Box Car. Single car releases in 2003 retailed for $16.98, while 2-pack sets sold
for $29.98 each. Walthers did not catalog 2-packs for each of the new 2003 roadnames. Left with single car releases only
were: NS and SSW/Cotton Belt.
A new release in Walthers' 2006 Model Railroad Reference Book was
the Gunderson 50' Hi-Cube Paper Service Box Car. The catalog states the car features include: separate door details;
end ladders; barke platforms; snap-on roof; bolted-in weight; and detailed underframe.
The car was a Gold Line release from Walthers. The first release
included five roadnames (AOK, CNA, NOKL, MR, and WC). An undecorated example is pictured in the 2006 Walthers catalog,
however it was not among the offerings. The single car retail was $19.98 and the Limited Run 2-Packs sold for $37.98
each.
