SP SD24 Prototype

TYCO's roster of SD24 roadnames included Burlington, Chessie System, Rio Grande, Union Pacific, and their ficitional Comin' Round the Mountain aka Rocky Mountain Lines.

The TYCO SD24 arrives in the company's product line with the 1977 catalog.

Seen above is a prototype paint job done in Southern Pacific's "Black Widow" scheme and applied to a TYCO SD24 shell.  This nice looking example was never produced by TYCO as a production run item.

The Southern Pacific rostered the similar looking SD7 and SD9, but did not own any SD24 diesels.  With its similar features, TYCO may have used a "Black Widow" painted unit as a reference for this prototype SD24.
