The Illinois Central was one of the few major railroads in the United States to not roster EMD's F-unit line. Until the merger with the GM&O in 1972 making the Illinois Central Gulf, there were never IC F-units. Lionel made an orange and chocolate brown IC F3 a reality in O-scale at least with the 1985 Collector Series City of New Orleans passenger train. The release included a trio of F3 diesels with powered and dummy F3-A units and a dummy F3-B available. Six passenger cars are listed in the 1985 Lionel Collector Series catalog: Baggage (No. 6-7220), Combo (No. 6-7221), Passenger Car King Coal (No. 6-7222), Passenger Car Banana Road (No. 6-7223), Dining Car (No. 6-7224) and Observation (No. 6-7225).
