The Royal Limited set arrives in Lionel's Collector Series category of products in 1980. You'll find the Chessie System U36C and Royal Limited rolling stock in the Lionel Spring 1980 Collector Series flyer and again the regular 1980 catalog, which combined both Lionel's Traditional and Collector offerings. A boxed version of The Royal Limited (No. 6-1070) was offered that included the loco and six cars, but did not include track and power pack. This was standard practice for the Lionel Collector Series sets of this period.
