The 10-1/2" sliding door box car is an important piece in the puzzle of our
survey of Lionel's 1970-1986 history. Offerings in the 1970 foldout poster catalog, the first annual publication of products
after the General Mills purchase, in a lean group. Separate rolling stock is limited and the non-familiar collector-aimed
releases are not common to the early MPC days of Lionel. The 9200-Series Box Car are a standout. If one was to select a
place to being a collection of this era of Lionel output, the 9200-Series Box Cars are a great choice. The cars were cataloged
by Lionel from 1970-1972, so they are fairly easy to locate at swap meets and online. The cars develop into Lionel's Famous
Name series and the 9200 numbering is gone by 1973. Tooling for the 9200-Series Box Car comes from Lionel's 6464-Series introduced
in 1953. Variations occur in both decoration and design for these cars. This site's goal is not to dive quite so deep into
the details and this information will not be completely presented here. For further information on the variations, it is
