Lionel's products of the period surveyed in this resource represent an interesting mix of very
basic and modest to elaborate and specialty sets certain to be the centerpiece of many collections. Organizing the products
of any model train line is a process of sorting and categorizing releases by type and year, etc.
Lionel adds to the interest by dividing its entire line in two parts with its Traditional and Collector Series categories
beginning in the late 1970s. You'll be able to navigate based on subject, as well as product type with the method I've selected
for presentation. There is a Lionel Collector Series section detailing and illustrating releases done for this category.
You'll also find Traditional Series releases from 1970-1985 presented in their own section. You will also find a section
of Lionel Locomotives, Rolling Stock, Train Sets and Accessories. A note to the visitor, there is duplication in my presentation
of products by following this pattern. However I think it is the optimal approach to my subject. An example, the Chessie
U36C was introduced in the Collector Series in Lionel's The Royal Limited. You'll find the Chessie U36C in the Collector
Series pages, plus the Chessie U-boat is included in the roundup of diesels in the Locomotive pages. I do attempt to always
provide the visitor with related reference information with items.
