Bachmann's 1979 Mikado 2-8-2 steam locomotive release utilized tooling from the company's 1975 Consolidation 2-8-0 offering.  A new 2-8-2 wheel arrangement was placed under the Consolidation's boiler and cab and this was paired with a new tooling Vanderbilt type tender.  The first offering in 1979 presented Baltimore & Ohio and Union Pacific.  The model included a smoke unit and sold for $44 in 1979.
