New for AHM in '82 is this model of the ALCO Century 628. This version of this big ALCO may be a record holder in HO-scale models. Besides AHM, this same model of the C-628 has been sold by Life-Like, Model Power, and most recently by IHC.

The real ALCO Century 628 diesel locomotives were built between 1963 and 1967 and purchased originally by Atlantic Coast Line, Chihuahua Pacific, Delaware & Hudson, Ferrocarril del Pacifico, Hamersley Iron of Australia, Louisville & Nashville, Lehigh Valley, Monon, NdeM, Norfolk & Western, Pennsylvania and the Southern Pacific. This list of actual owners leaves AHM's collection all in the non-prototype fantasy league of models.

You may read more about the history of ALCO at Wikipedia.org.

Life-Like is first in the U.S. in the 1970s with the Yugoslovian-made ALCO Century 628 in plastic ready-to-run. You may click on the image of the Monon example to go to my Life-Like Resource and details about this 1970s release.

In the 1980s, Model Power imported a run of this same Alco Century 628 model.

An active member of the Mehano line today, outside the U.S., is the Century 628 model. You may click on the image of the P&LE example to go to the Mehano website and further information.
